It’s 2020 and it’s time to switch up my wardrobe mindset. Gone are the days of wanting to have endless amounts of clothes that fill a wardrobe to the brim and never get worn. It is time to really think about what I’m spending my money on and the items that do actually make it to the wardrobe.
The reason why I have decided to change my mindset is down to global warming. Recently, we have seen bushfires sweeping across australia and I have to admit, it hit home and I think it did for a lot us. That was when I realised that this is serious as we all need to start changing things to save our planet. I know, its bad that its taken this long to hit home but I do think it is really making more people think and change their mindsets on a range of things. If it’s not the clothes you’re buying, it’s changing your diet to vegan or buying a reuseable water bottle or coffee cup. There are SO many things you can do the help the environment but one of the things that a lot of people don’t think about is your wardrobe and the clothes you buy.
I have to admit, I love to shop and I don’t think that will change but what will change is the thought process I have when deciding to buy something new. I want to fill my wardrobe with items that i’m going to wear over and over again, classic pieces that won’t go out of fashion but will last for years. I also want to be selective with the brands I shop at. We all know that there are certain brands that are very cheap and the clothing isn’t well made/isn’t going to last a long time and at the end of the day, not really saving you any money because you’re most likely going to have to buy something to replace it. But saying that, if you are on a budget, It can be difficult to stay away from these brands as that is all can afford. It’s not necessarily about staying away from the cheap brands, it’s about being selective and buying items that will stay in your wardrobe and you will get plenty of wear out of.
Things to think about when looking to purchase something…
- Do I already have something similar?
- How much wear am I going to get out of it?
- What do I have that I can wear with it?
- Do I already have enough of this item? (knitwear, jeans, coats etc)
- Is it the right season for this item?
- Is this a fashion piece that might go out of fashion?
- Is it classic piece that Im going to love in years to come?
I also want to mention that I am lucky enough to be gifted clothing which is still such a dream to me and I am starting to be more conscious about the brands I take gifting from. I want to make sure that Im not taking gifting for the sake of it. If a brand contacted me and I didn’t really like what they were offering to gift me, I wouldn’t take it. There is no point taking gifting just because it gives me something else to post on my instagram. If it’s not something I would choose to buy myself, I won’t be accepting it.
The wardrobe mindset I now have it very much all about making the most out of my wardrobe and that something that I want to share with all of you. For instance, I love jeans SO much and I want to show you how many ways you can style a pair of jeans for different occasions and seasons. I want to make sure that the items in my wardrobe are worn time and time again with new additions along the way. I will be sharing all things style and fashion throughout 2020 over here on my blog but also on my youtube channel which you can head over to HERE
