When Christmas hits, I am forever wishing I was back at school looking forward to my 2 weeks off and now that I’m an adult who works in retail, I only get 2 days off for Christmas. I know its pretty much the same for most people and some people don’t even get Christmas day off which is quite sad because who doesn’t want to relax and chill during the festive period! Being super busy at work during the run up to Christmas can suck the fun out of life a little and be quite stressful. I wanted to share with you some ways to relax when you do have a little bit of time to yourself or just time to spare.
SWITCH OFF SOCIAL MEDIA
now this is one I for a fact am awful at doing but I do think sometimes its important to put social media to the side for an evening an just spend time with your family or just by yourself doing something relaxing. Social media can often easily create emotions that you didn’t expect to feel such as anger, stress, jealousy and then can very quickly effect your mood. By switching it off or just staying away from your phone will just allow you to think less about other people and more about you and what you’re doing. I know its easier said than done but its definitely worth a try if you’re struggling to chill out after a busy day at work. Equally it might be exactly what you need. Interacting with people online and chatting to your blogging friends. I guess its all about what works for you and what helps you through things.
TAKE SOME TIME OUT FOR YOU
leading on from the last point, switching off social media will allow more time for yourself and time for yourself is so so so important. Its something I often forget about. This could be giving yourself a little pamper…doing your nails, putting on a face mask, having a relaxing bath…, it could be reading your favourite book in bed or maybe having a little bit of an online shop. Online shopping is one of my daily rituals, I’m always online looking at the new in section. I don’t always buy things but its just nice to sit there relax and scroll endlessly through a website. My little time for me is when I wash my hair…well not the washing hair part but the bit that comes after. As you may know, I usually have my hair curled. Its something I cant live without. I just love having my hair curly. Every time I wash my hair, I curl it. Its just a little rabbit I have got into but its something I do for me to make myself feel better and it really works. Im lucky that I can do it before I go to bed and wake up with it still curly. But if thats not something your hair allows you to do, maybe its getting up 10 mins earlier just to do your hair in the morning to make you feel better about yourself. I promise you it really works. I have less meh days about myself and more Yay days.
I suppose this is a given when it comes to relaxing but I guess sometimes you end up resorting to whats on tv rather than watching a movie. Its the best time of year to binge watch all the Christmas movies you love and lets face it you cant do it any other time of year can you?! Just taking an hour in the evening to pop a movie on whilst having a look through social media or whilst you eat your dinner should just allow you mind to clear from work and give you some chill time. Im forever sat on my bed with a movie on whilst usually typing up a blog post or editing some photos! the possibilities are endless.
GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP
getting a good nights sleep will set you up for the next day and get you raring to go. Obviously not every night is gunna be easy to get to sleep but thats why relaxing before bed is important. Maybe watching a movie in bed just to get yourself relaxed and send you off into a nice sleep. Avoid using your phone right before you sleep and then you should be well on your way to a decent nights sleep.
DO THE THINGS YOU ENJOY
One thing that I love to do when I get home is work on my blog or my Instagram as they are things I love to do. Coming home and doing something you enjoy will just lift your mood and help you relax into the evening. This may be cooking, spending time with your friends, spending time with family, writing, reading, shopping, crafts whatever it may be. DO something you enjoy to take your mind off the hectic day you’ve had at work.
BE PREPARED AND ORGANISED
This is so important if you’re busy at work over Christmas. I know for a fact that not having things organised can only send your stress levels through the roof. For example, all these blogmas posts are being pre written ready to go up so that I’m not stressing out on the day to get them written and ready for you. The more organised you are the more you have time for yourself and the things you love doing. It means you can be more spontaneous as you know what you’re doing and when you’re busy. Makes your mind relax and stops the stress.
Be sure to relax and enjoy Christmas and spend time with your loved ones when you can! I’m certainly going to be making sure I chill out when I can so that work does over power my mind!
Hope this gives you some tips if you’re busy working this Christmas
See you tomorrow!
