Last Wednesday Sophie and I took a trip to London to see the Balenciaga Shaping Fashion exhibition and It was amazing. These kinda exhibitions are right up my street and seeing these beautiful garments in the flesh and knowing what its like to go through the process of making a garment you have designed just makes you appreciate how much work has gone into each piece.
I wanted share my favourite pieces from the exhibition and maybe it will make you wanna go take a trip yourself…..I promise you its worth it.
This dress gives me all sorts of Hairspray vibes and I absolutely love it. Just imagine wearing a dress with such a poofy skirt every single day? like it would make you feel like a princess 24/7. Theres just so much sass with this dress. I just love it.
This dress jacket is possibly my favourite Balenciaga piece. ITS STUNNING. I WANT IT. All the beads on this dress were hand sewn and that just blows my mind. Like this must have taken donkeys years to make but so so worth it. I am in love.
This dress screams on trend which is the main reason I took a picture. These flared sleeves are everywhere at the moment….Balenciaga you did good.
Anyone else think of peas when they look at this or? In all seriousness though…it is an incredibly well made dress and the design is so unique.
This is another one of my favourites. The colour, the interesting shape…the design….Is just amazing. You can tell already that Balenciaga was all about shape.
The shape and design of this one is incredible. Who doesn’t love the idea of an oversized bow?
This one is so pretty. Its just so cute
This is one of the things that I found so interesting. An original sketch of one of Balenciaga’s designs. Like how cool is that? Like he drew that.
Designs Inspired by Balenciaga
This coat is insane. I believe it was a collaboration. Looks like a ski jacket but has been styled in the coolest way. Ski jacket and smart trousers….who knew that was a thing?
I am sure you have seen this one before. IT WAS INCREDIBLE. In real life its even cooler. Imagine wearing that though…It must be SO heavy. I mean If I put it on I probably wouldn’t even make it up off the floor it must be that heavy.
Dress by Paco Robanne
So there you have it, a few of my favourite pieces from the exhibition. It was insane as I have already said but you should SO go and see it. The tickets were £12 which I don’t think is bad at all of you ask me and the exhibition is open until February 2018 SOOOO if you’re busy or can’t make it at the moment don’t worry you’ve got plenty of time.
One thing I learnt from this exhibition is just how much Balenciaga really did shape fashion and how amazing the shapes of his garments are. No wonder he has done so well with his designs and him as a brand.
See you soon with another post
