Pre warning… this week was a very stressful one as my manger was away on holiday and we were given a monster of a list to get through. I didn’t really have the chance to take many photos as I was constantly doing things and making sure I got my jobs done. It was possibly one of the most stressful weeks since I finish uni. I haven’t felt this stressed since I was doing my final major project. That awful week is over…THANK GOD
Since I didnt really take a lot of photos, I thought i’d change it up a little bit this week. Instead of going day by day, I am just going to talk you through a few of the things I got up to. It will be back to normal next week but this one was a bit of a write off so we’re just gunna go with what we’ve got/
URBAN/FESTIVAL RE MERCH
Re merchandising Urban has got to be one of the most difficult tasks as its the ugliest girl/trend out of all of them. Its basically where all the ugly clothes end up haha. There are some cool bits in Urban so I wont slate it anymore. I worked with Ellen on this and we re merched the whole girl/trend. Like I said its quite difficult as everything is so ugly. One of our tasks was to get all the denim shorts into one wall panel which we managed to do so that was a success and overall it did look so much better than it was. It needed a little re jig. This was one of those tasks where you have to just kinda go with it whether you like it or not. I think it looks pretty cool overall just has a few mingin bits in it.
PRETTY RE MERCH
Me and Sophie were given the task to re do half of the pretty girl/trend and it was actually more difficult than Urban. Didn’t think that was possible if I’m honest. To cut a long story short. It was a bit of a disaster. It just looked awful and really messy. At the time I thought it was okay but once I looked at it the next day I was like ew. We did actually get the chance to re do it and it looked so much better. I think sometimes you need to do something awful to learn from it and I like getting feedback, it helps you become better at your job and accepting that not everything is going to be amazing is okay. No one expects you to be perfect and I think that it something I really took from doing this. It doesn’t always work first time but if you have the chance to re do it then try and be better than the first time.
TOPMAN TROUSER RE MERCH
This was a really random task that came about. I originally was just supposed to add some folded trousers on a couple of shelves and it turned into a re merch of the wall. Basically it looked awful. I wish I had taken a photo of it before hand because it looked like someone had done a half job and got bored and left it. I really enjoyed doing this and it felt quite rewarding after. I don’t really know why but it was probably because it looked so much better than it did before hand.
I started by making a trouser block which was a 4 way fixture which I popped all the slim leg chinos on. I think they were chinos. Im not entirely sure. They are quite ugly to be fair so we’re gunna go with chinos because the word itself is kinda ugly. I then got to play around with the various check print trousers and give it a bit of a cool edge. One of the things I love about menswear is that mix between smart and casual. Teaming a t shirt with a pair of smart trousers and then topped off with a pair of trainers just gives such a effortless smart casual look. Not every guy likes that look but its good to give the option as some guys might not even think about it until the items are teamed together.
I just think it looks so aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know I’m pretty happy with my work. The best part is the Topman Manger loved it and I was like YASSSSS CHARLOTTE YO GO GURL. It’s always good when you do something right, makes you feel so good. This is probably my best Topman work so far.
I love it when a shoe delivery comes in. Especially when there is new lines. Its so exciting seeing what new shoes have come in….even more exciting when they’re AW bits because boots are my weakness. This shoe delivery was huge and this day was extra stressful so this was quite therapeutic and I just kinda got on with it and tried to de stress myself….It didn’t work but it was worth a try.
Those boots in the left hand corner in the last photo are a total Balenciaga dupe SO if you’re a fan get yourself a pair. Only downside is that they’re £79 which is pretty pricey but if they are your thing…GET THEM cause they’re so much cheaper than the real thing.
This is only the start for the winter boots that will come out over the next few months. I wonder what other beaut shoesies will appear in TOPSHOP!
I hope you enjoyed this post. Im sorry for the not so diary entry post but we will be back to normal next week. These odd posts will happen every now and then because work kills me sometimes but I guess it breaks it up a little. Anyways I’m rambling…I hope you enjoyed and I will catch you next week with more of my Visual Merchandising life.
