It may be August but its never too early to start thinking about your winter wardrobe. As you know english weather is very temperamental and the english summer is basically over. Im not going to lie I’m kinda looking forward to the cooler months. I LOVE Autumn/winter fashion. I wouldn’t say summer is completely over but its definitely getting there. I guarantee they’ll probably be a week in September or even October which is super hot just cause well that happens every year. We get summer later then you’re supposed to.
Todays post is all about how to begin to transition your summer wardrobe into your autumn wardrobe by adding in a few winter pieces. Now I’m not saying go out and buy loads of jumpers and get yourself a new coat. Bit early for that. What I am saying is there are ways to still use your summer staples but adjusting them for the slightly cooler days. We’ve already started experiencing a few colder days which instantly make me wanna get my jumpers out so I want to share with you a few ways you can incorporate winter pieces into your wardrobe as we reach the end of summer.
So where do you start? Well as it gets colder you naturally want to bring out your favourite jumpers am I right? So maybe get a few of your lighter knitted jumpers out…any jackets that are slightly warmer…your long sleeve t shirts. That kinda thing. Its always a good way to start at least.
My wardrobe more or less stays pretty much the same all year round in terms of colour and the types of items I wear. For instance…I wear jeans, t shirts, trainers oh and my leather jacket all year round. I just layer a little more when it comes to winter. So for me transitioning isn’t too difficult as I have a staple look that I always go for. So for those of you who love your summer dresses and being super girly, It can be a littler difficult as you can get your super cute dresses out all the time. There are ways around it though and I will show you later on in this post.
In terms of the items you wanna add to your wardrobe. You probably want to start with adding a few jumpers so maybe one grey, one cream and one black or in my case, I have added a cream and a camel jumper as theyre slightly more summery colours and they keep my wardrobe feeling quite light rather than being heavy from the dark colours. Am I making sense? I hope so.
When it comes to bottoms, mine don’t really change much. Like I said before I live in jeans all year round but for some of your it might be getting out your darker jeans. I also have a few pairs of black trousers here. Thats more for myself as I am trying to stop wearing jeans but trousers are a great alternative to jeans to wear not only now but also over autumn winter. My black denim skirt is also making an appearance…not only is a denim skirt great for summer but can easily be layered up in the winter. A fab staple to have in your wardrobe.
Jackets are probably the most difficult piece to add to your wardrobe. Mainly because when its cold its cold and usually you need a coat lets face it. BUT at this time of year its not cold enough for a coat but you do often need a jacket. I am in love with my denim jacket at the moment which is perfect for layering as is my leather jacket. I also have my pink faux leather jacket and a light weight trench duster coat. All of which are perfect for this time of year and each give a different look which is exactly what you need in your wardrobe.
TOP TIP – Layer jumpers over cute summer dresses
This is probably something that a lot of you know and probably do anyway but layering jumpers over the top of your summer pieces can instantly make them wearable for this time of year. I know for a fact that I really dont want to let go of summer purely for this dress. Its beautiful and I wanna wear it all the time. Maybe I need a posh date night or something. Anyways naturally I want to get more wear out of it because its so gorgeous and needs to be worn more.
I started by layering a cropped jumper over the top of the dress. A cropped jumper is better as they dress then acts as a skirt and you can still see a good section of the dress and its not being hidden in any way. I chose this camel coloured jumper as it give a touch of colour….I know its not much colour…but its colour for me. It gives the perfect winter boho feel to this very boho dress.
I have chosen to cinch in the waist with this western belt to not only give the waist more definition but to tuck the front of the jumper into. It kind of shows that you have a waist and really bring the outfit together. Without the belt the outfit might look a little frumpy. Theres nothing worst than looking frumpy. Am I right girls?
To add a little edge….Always adding a little edge….I have added my CUTE studded bag from zara which makes me feel really cool. Thats quite sad but genuinely feel quite cool and stylish when I wear this bag.
To finish off the look, I have added my Topshop sock boots. These are going to be worn so much this Autumn winter. I feel really cool in these too. They make me feel like a model off duty and that is literally my dream look. Im not a model but I can at least try and dress like one. These give me all sorts of model off duty feels.
This outfit is much more wintery in terms of the way it looks but again its a great way to start incorporating your winter pieces into your wardrobe.
It all starts with my gorge floral denim pinafore. I knew when I bought this that it would be great for layering in the cooler months. Kinda why I bought it as I knew I could wear it all year round. Its so pretty as well. I love the embroidery and its a little different from your bog standard pinafore. I have layered a cream knitted jumper underneath to add a little warmth as well as lightening up the outfit a little and giving more of a summery but warm feel. This outfit would be one that I would wear bare legged so its still perfect for the end of summer but kept warm with the jumper.
To keep extra warm because lets face it, Its England so I would probably still be cold, I have added my trusty leather jacket. Another one of my wardrobe staples. This is a great piece for all year round but especially this time of year as it gives a little bit of extra warmth. I would probably team this look with a pair of converse or a cute pair of boots.
This final look is more of a english summer look. I didn’t want every outfit to be going super wintery. This is a style of outfit that I am loving at the moment. A stripe tee, Trousers and a jacket.
I am a sucker for a stripe tee or a tee in general and this one is just to die for its so bloody cute. Recently I have been wearing t shirts like this tucked into a pair of black cigarette trousers, trimmed with a pair of trainers and Im literally living for that style of outfit. Again going down the model off duty road. Makes me feel super trendy and cool. Like you know those girls who work for a magazine or are a stylist at ASOS and they just look super trendy all the time. Thats how I feel. I finish the look off with my pink Zara faux leather jacket which adds a bit of fun to the look and ties in nicely with the pink on the t shirt. Who doesn’t love a bit of matchy matchy eh?
I love transtioning my wardrobe as I get to wear more of my wardrobe and get to get my jumpers out. Im a sucker for a knitted jumper. Obviously it is still summer so we might get those warm summer days but for those cooler days this is a good way to still wear your summer wardrobe but keeping warm at the same time. I will be doing another one of these as the wear does get colder which will be incorporating more layers into your wardrobe but that will come within the next couple of months.
I hope you enjoyed and I’d love to know if this helped your or even if you just enjoyed reading it.
