A year ago today I AM CHARLOTTE OLIVIA was created and it was the best decision I have ever made.
After graduating university, I really struggled to work out what I wanted to do. I have so many interests within the fashion industry and trying to work out which one was for me was honestly one of the hardest things. Throughout my final year of university, I spent a lot of my time styling various photoshoots and my love for styling continued to build but the minute I left uni and started looking at styling jobs or working with a fashion team, I realised that I didn’t have the passion to want to be stylist. Styling is so incredibly hard to get into, like many jobs within the fashion industry and I thought to myself, If I don’t want to make the effort now then its not a job I want to do for the rest of my life. In a way not worth my time, nor was it even worth it for the experience. I loved the creativity when it came to styling photoshoots but then university gives you full control of your creativity and you can take it any way that you want.
I started my blog just after I finished my final major project at university. I had been wanting to blog for so long but it just wasn’t possible with the amount of work I had to do. For some people its easy to balance but for me, I really wanted to enjoy my time at uni and the idea of having a blog just got pushed to the side. Throughout uni, I had various different blogs for the different projects I did and I remember that I got a comment on my results form….the section of your results that tells you the bits you’ve not quite done correctly….and the comment was something along the line of ‘your blog is great, well thought out and interesting’ and instantly after getting that comment I knew that blogging is something that I am good at. Its something that I also throughly enjoyed doing. Its funny because everyone used to complain about having to write blog and how annoying it was and there was me joining in but secretly really enjoying it.
I created it at this time because it was kind of like perfect timing. Once I handed in my project, I literally had nothing to do. Well actually thats a lie, I had Graduate Fashion Week stuff to work on but the majority of uni work was over. It all began by trying to think of the name which was a difficult. Then I Am Charlotte Olivia was born.
I started off with posting outfits I was wearing on a normal day as the reason why I’d even made my blog was because I wanted to share my outfits with people. I have always been a girl that loves clothes and putting outfits together and this platform was the best way to do it. It took a little bit of time to work out what I really wanted to do with my blog and working out a way which worked for me. I had a few doubts throughout the year as I didn’t know whether I was posting too many outfits, was that boring, would people even read this many outfit post? I really didn’t know. I then posted about my graduation and it got more views. I realised that the mix of outfits and lifestyle posts was what worked for me.
Throughout this year I have gone from taking photos in my mirror for blog photos to having a set up in my bedroom against a white wall to now working with a photographer and using locations for outfit posts. I have only really just started doing location outfit posts but its the next step for my blog. I have had few great opportunities over this year. I get to work with an amazing photographer who shoots big bloggers which makes me feel pretty lucky as I’m very small little blog in this world of blogging. I also work with Reward Style which I applied for and never expected to actually be invited to join. It makes all this work worth it.
The best achievement I have had over this year is my blog views. Over this year I have hit 45,000 views on my blog which is incredible as I have had the odd few months where I haven’t been very active on my blog which I really did expect my views to really dip but they’ve managed to stay more or less consistent. So I have to say a massive thank you to all of you who read my blog and come back for more because I really do appreciate it. Im really excited to see where I’ll be a year on from now and how many views my little blog will hit.
The one thing that I was say I have learnt over this year is that I love blogging and I will continue to do it for however long as I am in full control of what I post and what I do with it. If I fancy posting about my favourite movie, I can. If I fancy writing a little post about a day out, I can. I can literally post about what I want and I love that I’m in control of it. Its my little place on the internet that I can just chat about random things that I love and people who are interested in it can read and enjoy it as much as I do.
Before I finish, I just want to say again, Thank you so much for all of you who continue to come back a read my blog. It really does mean a lot. For those of you who are new, hello I’m glad you’ve come over to join me, you are all very welcome over here at I AM CHARLOTTE OLIVIA
