At the beginning of November I began my Invisalign Treatment and I wanted to share with you my experience so far, 1 month in. I haven’t had them for very long so I can’t give you full review of how well its worked or anything like that but I can tell you what its like and how its been for me so far.
The first step before you can even get invisalign is going for a Consultation…
I went for my consultation knowing that I was 100% going to get Invisalign so it was pretty straight forward. I then went back to the dentist and had moulds of my teeth taken which really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. People make out like these things are horrid but it wasn’t. I always think when Im going through things like getting moulds of my teeth that there is people in worse situations. Those moulds then got sent off and I had to wait about a month – 6 weeks before I got my first set of Invisalign aligners.
Before I could even get the aligners, I had to go through the tedious task of having my teeth filed which again wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It wasn’t the most comfortable feeling ever but I knew it wasn’t going to last forever and that needed to be done otherwise I wasn’t getting my Invisalign. That took about an hour, I had a fair amount of teeth filed but luckily each tooth didn’t have to be filed too much so my teeth really didn’t look much different.
The next task involved was having my attachments put on. If you don’t know what they are, they’re basically little bits of white filling that get stuck to your teeth to help move them to the correct position. They feel really odd to begin with but you get used to it. Once that was done, I had my first aligner put on my teeth.
I have got to admit the first couple of days of having my first aligner wasn’t fun. My teeth hurt quite a lot and really didn’t make me feel very good at all. In order to eat, you have to take them off and I really struggled to take them off to begin with which was really frustrating when all you want to do is eat. They also made me lose my confidence for about 3 days, I just felt incredibly ugly and gross and felt like no one would ever come near me. I actually started to wonder why I even got them which is silly when I was so excited to get them. The worst part was on the second day of having them, I got the biggest ulcer ever and my lip became swollen and I had to go to work with a fat lip because I didn’t have anything to help it. Bonjela was my best friend. Lets just say this feeling lasted a week at most. Its just process of getting used to them which you really don’t think will happen when your first get them. Taking them off got easier and easier and by the end of the first week, taking them off was no trouble and the achey pain had pretty much gone. All in all, there first couple of days were horrid but they rest was absolutely fine and was just about getting used to them and learning that you need to wash them before you put them back in and flossing and all that jazz.
Getting my second aligner fitted was such an easy process. It hurt when it first got fitted but that lasted a day or two which is normal. I also got given my next 4 sets which lead me up to January which is the next time I will see the dentist. But the second set has been fine. I think compared to the horrid first week, everything seems pretty easy in terms of dealing with it. I can take them out pretty easily, cleaning them is fine. I’m on the 4th week of having them, about to start my 3rd aligner and I think I’ve got used to them now. I forget a lot of the time that they’re even there which is such a nice feeling when I know how terrible I felt when I first got them.
So that is my journey so far, I haven’t gone into a crazy amount of detail. Purely because I haven’t got a huge amount of experience with it just yet and in the future I will deffo do an experience post or a half way through post or something along those lines. If any of you are interested in me doing a Q&A post about my Invisalign, let me know. I wont do it until the new year but Id be up for doing that OR if any of you have any questions or want some advice about it, feel free to message me on social media or email me. Im always happy to help!
