Ombré hair has been a part of my life for about 3 years now and it is safe to say I have learnt a lot about how to care for bleached hair. I know not everyone has bleached hair but for those of you who do or are thinking about bleaching your hair, I hope these tips and tricks I have learnt over the years will help you.
Where to start? Well I’ll begin by talking about ombré hair for you newbies who are wanting to go down the ombré/bleached hair route. I could talk for days about the process of getting my hair to the colour it is now, believe me it was a really lengthy process but I won’t bore you with that in this post. My number one tip if you’re wanting to bleach/ombré your hair is to go to the hairdressers and have it done professionally unless you’ve died your previously and know how to work with hair dye and bleach. The reason why is because when bleach your hair it can very easily go wrong (it went wrong for me not too long ago and I nearly had a major meltdown, It wasn’t pretty) in many different ways and hair is something which a lot of people take pride in so make sure you pick the best route for you when it comes to beginning the dying process. I didn’t actually do this when I first bleached my hair, I just went straight in with the L’Oreal Ombré kit and thankfully it worked out okay. At the time my hair was ridiculously long and I had only bleached the ends which meant if it went drastically wrong, I could just cut off the bleached ends.
Once having it done professionally or by yourself, you can refresh the look with home dye kits which are really easy to use. Bleached hair does fade over time so you do have to re dye from time to time to keep the blonde colour from fading. Like I said you can use home dye kits if you’re confident enough or if you don’t mind paying a hefty price, get it done at the hair dressers. Make sure you only dye it once every 3-4 months as your hair will damaged and dry and you don’t want to strip it of too much moisture because it will take even longer to get it healthy again. Keep reading as I have a couple tips and products which help to keep the blonde the colour you want.
What Products Do I Use?
I have to admit, even though I have bleached hair I really don’t use a lot of product on my hair. Reason being is I try and keep it in the best condition I can after I bleach it. Once I have bleached my hair, I like to try and bring the moisture back and stop my hair from looking too dry. This why you need to wait 3 -4 months before you bleach your hair again as it gives you time to make your healthy and let it recover before doing it again. Eventually your hair will get used to it and you’ll find it so much easier. You just have to remember that you do need to take care of bleached hair as it strips the colour and the hair back and you really don’t want to be walking around looking like you’ve got a pile of straw attached to your head. These products however should be able to help you!
John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew Conditioner
3 years ago when I first bleached my hair, I used this product as I knew nothing about what products you should use on bleached hair and it was the only one I had heard of. I have tried a range of different products and this is definitely one of my favourite conditioners to use. When it comes to conditioner, I think its really important to leave it in your hair for about 3 – 5 mins. So whilst your washing your face and body you can leave it in and let washing it out be the final thing you do in the shower. By leaving the conditioner in your hair for a period of time, you’re letting the conditioner really soak into your hair. I only use this on the ends of my hair as thats where the bleached bit is but if you’ve gone full blown blonde babe then I would suggest using it all over, especially after you’ve just bleached it.
This is by far one of the best products for bleached hair I have ever used. My hair went from bleached yellowiness to blonde ombréness I had always hoped for. Honestly the ends of my hair are the shade of blonde I’ve wanted to get to for so long. This product has worked wonders and I recommend anyone with bleached hair to go out and buy it. I could talk for days about how good this is so I’ll stop now.
These are 2 new products to my hair care routine and they’re fab. I usually just use any shampoo and conditioner which I know is probably not the normal thing to do. I actually really like this shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner especially as its designed for blonde hair therefore when you apply it to the ends of your hair, you know its designed to work with the bleached areas. Both these products have made my hair feel healthy and softer which is what you need when you’re hair isn’t in the best condition after bleaching it. I would definitely recommend giving this shampoo and conditioner a try if you have blonde hair as it will help to protect your lush blonde hair that you spent hours on perfecting.
This isn’t really classed as a product as such or maybe it is I don’t know. If you have never tried a Tangle Teezer, I recommend you go and buy yourself one. They are the best brush for brushing hair that tangles easily which you can probably guess from the name. I have found since having ombré hair that my hair gets so knotty after washing it and my Tangle Teezer makes it so much easier to brush my hair. It really does get rid of those knots, you’ll know if you have one. I really need to get myself a new one actually, this one has been used to death but its still going strong!
I hope you have found this of use or know someone who will. If anyone would like me to do a post about my hair history, let me know!
